Pantheon and Tag1 Consulting are proud to announce a partnership to extend support for Drupal 7. While the Drupal community will cease support for Drupal 7 after January 5, 2025, Pantheon customers can continue to receive security updates via our Long-Term Support (LTS) offering until at least January 5, 2027. This timeline should provide ample time for Drupal 7 customers on Pantheon to complete migrations on their terms.
All Pantheon customers can take advantage of this LTS offering at no additional cost.
Why we partnered with Tag1 Consulting
Drupal 7 was released in 2011, and nearly 14 years later, it still powers hundreds of thousands of websites. While migrating to Drupal 10/11 or WordPress offers security and functionality improvements, this is a big endeavor for many website owners.
We chose to partner with Tag1 because of their long history of leadership in the Drupal community, with a focus on security, performance and migrations. Tag1 currently operates the development tools that power Drupal and Drupal.org and will continue to do so in support of our LTS offering.
Pantheon and Tag1’s offering will enable Pantheon customers to continue operating their portfolio of Drupal 7 websites with confidence that they will receive timely security patches for both Drupal core and community-contributed modules while planning and executing their migration to the latest CMS release.
What’s included
Pantheon customers will receive:
- Security and compatibility updates to Drupal core and core dependencies from Tag1 Consulting by updating their site running on the Pantheon Drupal 7 Upstream via the Pantheon Dashboard or Terminus command line tool.
- Security patches and compatibility updates to community-contributed modules that power their site via Tag1’s D7ES module, which will be included in the Upstream.
- Continued support for Drupal 7-compatible runtime environments on the Pantheon Platform, including PHP, MySQL and other prerequisites.
How to prepare
Customers currently using the Pantheon Drupal 7 Upstream do not need to take any action to prepare to receive security patches to the Upstream. Their workflow will not change, and patches to contributed modules via the D7 Extended Support (D7ES) module are provided with automation in mind.
However, the LTS offering does not include applying or deploying patches. Just as is the case today, customers decide when and how to deploy these updates. Those in need of a full-service solution can purchase additional managed D7ES service directly from Tag1 for hands-on assistance with security patch application. Find out more here.
